She was a designer, singer and performer who broke through the barriers of the world of music. She was simultaneously modern and traditional. She was she was a Mexican American who brought two worlds in a distinctive manner. Her tragic death cut a hole in her rise in popularity, and as often happens when a glowing, charming singer dies too young, it caused many to grieve every potential that was not fully realized. The fans have worked hard throughout the years to preserve her legacy. The death of Selena triggered emotion in Latino culture that can be likened with Elvis Presley, and John Lennon. The singer was extremely popular throughout Latino communities throughout North America her music crossed lines of cultural difference to affect the lives of young and old alike. Selena may have been hailed by certain people as a Latina Madonna, however she is still a great character model. Selena's values of family life offstage and involvement with AIDS awareness efforts make her a good example.
